Congratulations! If you're moving to the Boise area or considering it, you've found some great communities to call home.

A World Away
Over the 20th century, Boise became a major regional center for business and education. What is now Boise State University, the state's largest college, began as a modest two-year school in 1932 and moved to its present campus along the Boise River in 1940. Companies including Morrison-Knudsen, Boise Cascade, Ore-Ida, J.R. Simplot, and Albertson's established corporate headquarters here. As the century neared its close, Boise also became known as a high-tech center, with Hewlett-Packard and Micron Technologies ranking among the largest employers.

The Honor Role
Boise has received an unbroken string of kudos from the media in recent years. Money Magazine named it "the fourth best place to live in America." The Washington Post called it "one of America's safest cities." Parenting magazine said it ranks among the Top 10 U.S. cities in which to raise children, and USA Today dubbed it one of its six "Cities of the '90s." Boise's popularity is reflected in its population boom, too; the city now has about 180,000 residents, up from 102,249 in 1980, making it about three times as populous as the next-biggest Idaho cities, Pocatello and Idaho Falls. Despite the growth, Boise still resembles a big small town, easy to make one's own for a visit or for good.
A Winter Paradise and So Much More
Go skiing: Located just 16 miles north of Boise, Bogus Basin has 43 runs over 2,000 acres and offers day and night skiing from Thanksgiving until April. The area is popular with mountain bikers come summer. Go fishing or boating right in the city! The Boise River attracts fly fishers, and Veterans Memorial Park off State Street northwest of downtown has a large fishing lake. The river also attracts floaters in the summer months; Barber Park in East Boise is the top launching spot.

There's So Much to Do
Boise offers fun, informative and relaxing raft trips, which emphasize flora, fauna, history and geology, as you travel down the beautiful Boise River either in or very close to Boise, Idaho. You can enjoy taking pictures, identifying wildflowers, birds, and just getting close to nature, in a leisurely way. Idaho is home to some of the best hunting and fishing opportunities in the West. From big game hunting in the Salmon River mountains to fly fishing in a secluded mountain lake, Idaho offers unparalled access to wildlands. The Boise River, which runs right through the heart of downtown Boise, provides anglers with the opportunity to chase wary brown trout during their lunch breaks or after work. Chukar and upland bird hunting in the Foothills keeps Boiseans busy during the fall months. Give Fish & Game a call and they will give you information on great hunting or fishing opportunities.

A Hidden Treasure
After sunset, don your dancing shoes! Hear the entrancing rhythm of live jazz, rock, disco, or classical guitar music playing nightly at many of the Boise night clubs, restaurants, and pubs! Trade your dancing shoes for hiking boots and hit the trail for a fun day in the woods. See the breathtaking beauty of the Idaho forests as you hike or mountain bike rugged mountain trails. Do you feel like taking a road more traveled? Bike or stroll with on the scenic Greenbelt pathway along the Boise river. Early birds catch the worm, and early fisherman can lure trout with it! Feel the gentle tug on the line of your favorite fishing pole! Boise has the perfect fishing hole waiting just for you!
